About Me

Not My Best Work… is the second blogging project by Toya Sharee — writer, seasoned sexual health professional, and unapologetic curator of #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackBoyJoy.

Her essays have been featured on MadameNoire and xoNecole, where she’s been known to chronically overshare about everything from navigating career microaggressions while Black (and resisting the urge to flip all those damn tables over) to the heartbreak of watching Philly get eaten alive by gentrification.

Her first blog, Bullets and Blessings, captured the optimism of a young millennial balancing motherhood, career chaos, and the growing pains of a quarter-life crisis. Not My Best Work… revisits those same themes through the eyes of a cynical elder millennial who’s lived just enough life to confidently say: “No one knows what they’re doing — so fuck this, fuck them, and always bet on yourself.”

When she’s not writing or teaching sex ed, Toya can usually be found with her earbuds in — deep into some alternative R&B, refreshing her browser for concert tickets, and trying not to embarrass her kids in the school drop-off line.

Find her on Threads at @original_heartthrob and on Instagram at @thirty6seconds for sex ed content and cultural commentary.

Perfection is overrated — and this might not be my best work, but it’s my most brutally honest.
